This morning, the Rossetti Theater hosted Malanova, a theatrical performance confronting issues of violence and discrimination. Organized by Sciara Progetti Teatro, the event was attended by local government officials and community leaders, marking a significant step in raising awareness about these critical issues.

The performance is part of a broader initiative led by the Prevention and Protection of Minors (PTM) group, which unites various municipal, regional, and educational institutions in promoting respect, legality, and social responsibility. Among the attendees were Caterina de Gavardo, Trieste’s Councillor for Public Safety Policies, and Maurizio De Blasio, Councillor for Education and Family Policies.

De Blasio addressed the students present, urging them to take an active role in societal change, stating, “Society does not change because others change it; it changes because we change it ourselves.”

About Malanova

Malanova is a powerful work based on a true story from the novel by journalist Cristina Zagaria and Anna Maria Scarfò. It tells the tale of a young girl caught in a cycle of violence and explores broader cultural norms and attitudes toward respect and honor.

The project aims to educate and sensitize young audiences on topics such as violence, bullying, and the responsible use of social media. It also seeks to combat criminal behavior, including fraud and cybercrime.

A Broader Initiative

The performance is part of a larger project involving schools and community groups throughout Italy. Since 2022, the initiative has engaged tens of thousands of students with live performances, online workshops, and educational materials. This year’s efforts included two live-streamed sessions addressing addiction, distress, and violence, followed by interactive discussions with students.

Sciara Progetti Teatro, known for its work in non-formal education, plans to distribute a teaching manual to local schools, ensuring the project’s impact continues in classrooms for years to come.

Local Support

The initiative reflects a coordinated effort by municipal and regional entities, including the Giuliano Isontina University Healthcare Company and the IRCCS Burlo Garofolo. These organizations, alongside law enforcement and educational institutions, form the backbone of the Prevention and Awareness for the Protection of Minors Protocol.

By combining art, education, and community engagement, Malanova underscores the potential for cultural initiatives to inspire meaningful change.
