On Sunday, November 24, the G. Calza Chiarbola Sports Hall in Trieste will play host to the 22nd edition of the Used and Collectible Record, CD & DVD Fair, a longstanding event that has become a magnet for music lovers, collectors, and curious visitors from across Europe and beyond. For over two decades, this fair has offered a rare opportunity for enthusiasts to find vinyl records, CDs, and DVDs spanning a range of genres, many of which are not easily available in mainstream stores.

Organized by the Associazione Culturale Musica Libera in partnership with the Municipality of Trieste, this annual event has garnered attention not only from Italian attendees but also from international exhibitors, drawing music fans from Slovenia, Croatia, Switzerland, Hungary, and Germany. More than 80 vendors will set up shop, offering an eclectic mix of collectibles that include vinyl records, picture discs, rare reissues, and live concert recordings.

The fair showcases an impressive array of musical genres: Italian pop and rock, progressive rock, punk, funk, jazz, metal, disco, new wave, electronic, classical, and ethnic music. Fans of animated series will also find treasured soundtracks, while nostalgia seekers can flip through collections of 78 rpm records—popular in Italy during the early 20th century. Visitors will also find a trove of memorabilia, including t-shirts, vintage posters, books, magazines, and photographs, all tied to the enduring appeal of music culture.

“This is a place for people who still believe in the magic of physical music,” says Marco Resetti, co-founder of Radio Resetti, a Trieste-based hi-fi store that has been a fixture at the fair for years. “We bring together collectors, music lovers, and audiophiles in a shared celebration of sound.”

Beyond the albums and memorabilia, the fair offers a chance to experience high-quality audio equipment. Radio Resetti, known for its exceptional sound systems, will present a range of equipment to help visitors experience music the way it was meant to be heard.

One of the highlights of this year’s fair is the release of rare music from the 1980s and ’90s by local Trieste bands Warhead/Cenotaph and Blind Ambition. These previously unreleased tracks—compiled on three new CDs—are part of an anthology published by AUA Records, a label based in Tarcento. The label will also unveil a live recording by Upset Noise, the region’s trailblazing Metal/Hardcore band, captured during a 1989 concert in Tarcento. The album is a rare gem for hardcore music fans and collectors alike. Former members of the bands will be on hand to sign copies of the CDs for dedicated fans.

For those seeking a glimpse into Eastern European music culture, exhibitors from the former Yugoslavia will offer prized 33 rpm records, including releases from Jugoton (Zagreb) and RTB (Belgrade). These rare finds, which often differ from their European counterparts, have become highly sought after in the collector’s market. Local Trieste record stores, such as VinylOne and Red Moon Records, will also be represented, further cementing the city’s place in the global music exchange.
