In a stunning demonstration of sustainability and creativity, an eco-friendly Christmas tree was unveiled in the town of Muggia, crafted entirely from recycled materials. Standing 8 meters tall with a 4.6-meter diameter, the tree was installed on Via delle Saline, along Provincial Road 14, as part of an initiative by Hera Luce, the energy division of the Hera Group.
This unique holiday installation is the result of the SCART artistic workshop, a project within the Hera Group that engages young artists in transforming waste materials into art. The tree is made primarily from recycled plastic bottles and other repurposed elements, all collected and beautified by the talented artists of the SCART workshop.
The official lighting ceremony for the tree will take place on the evening of November 28, signaling the start of the holiday season in Muggia. The installation is part of a larger effort to modernize the town’s public lighting infrastructure. As part of this initiative, 2,700 outdated light sources will be replaced with energy-efficient LED technology, resulting in an annual energy saving of nearly 714,000 kWh — the equivalent of the average yearly consumption of 264 households. This upgrade is expected to reduce energy use by 68%, reflecting the region’s commitment to sustainability.
The eco-tree not only serves as a festive centerpiece but also as a powerful symbol of Muggia’s environmental focus. In a time when sustainability has become a global priority, the town’s blend of art, innovation, and green technology highlights how communities can embrace the future while celebrating tradition.
As the tree’s lights prepare to shine, Muggia sets the stage for a holiday season that honors both the environment and the spirit of the season, offering a model for how urban spaces can creatively address environmental challenges while celebrating cultural traditions.
