A mild earthquake measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale struck near the Slovenia-Italy border on Sunday evening, according to seismological reports.
The tremor occurred at 6:25 p.m. local time, with its epicenter located approximately 2 kilometers east of Anhovo, Slovenia, at a depth of 20 kilometers. The quake’s proximity to the town of Gorizia, about 10 kilometers to the south, brought minor but noticeable vibrations to the area, sparking brief concern among residents on both sides of the border.
Authorities in both Slovenia and Italy confirmed that no injuries or damage to infrastructure had been reported as of late Sunday.
“This is a seismically active region, but earthquakes of this magnitude are typically not harmful,” said a representative of the local geological survey.
The border area between Slovenia and Italy is known for its picturesque landscapes and rich cultural heritage, but it occasionally experiences seismic activity due to its location near the junction of several tectonic plates.
Local officials reminded residents of the importance of preparedness for more significant seismic events, emphasizing that even minor quakes can serve as a timely reminder to review safety measures.
