The historic border city of Gorizia is set to host a groundbreaking jazz residency in February 2025, celebrating its role as Europe’s first cross-border cultural capital as part of the GO! 2025 initiative. Curated by the Euritmica Cultural Association and supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government, Ponte a NordEst will bring together some of Italy’s most celebrated jazz musicians for a unique collaboration culminating in a concert at Trieste’s Politeama Rossetti on February 17, 2025.

At the heart of the project is pianist and composer Stefano Bollani, known for his virtuosity and boundary-pushing creativity. Bollani will lead an ensemble aptly named Stefano Bollani All Stars, featuring jazz luminaries:

  • Enrico Rava, the legendary trumpeter from Trieste;
  • Paolo Fresu, a virtuoso trumpeter and cultural leader;
  • Roberto Gatto, a master drummer with decades of international acclaim;
  • Ares Tavolazzi, a double bassist bridging rock and jazz traditions;
  • Antonello Salis, a fiery Sardinian accordionist and pianist;
  • Daniele Sepe, a saxophonist blending Neapolitan passion with improvisational brilliance.

Special Guests include rising talents Frida, a young singer and pianist, and Christian Mascetta, a guitarist known for his virtuosic flair.

The residency, from February 13 to 16, will not only foster collaboration among these world-class musicians but also spotlight Gorizia’s unique cultural and historical heritage. Artists will perform new works inspired by global musical traditions, reflecting the project’s ethos of intercultural exchange.

The highlight of the residency will be a February 17 concert at the Politeama Rossetti in Trieste, promising an unprecedented convergence of Italian jazz legends on one stage. The event aims to create lasting bridges across cultures and borders, resonating with the spirit of GO! 2025, which emphasizes unity and collaboration between Italy and Slovenia.

Tickets go on sale December 4 via Vivaticket and TicketOne.

As Regional Vice President Mario Anzil remarked, “Building bridges means celebrating our identity while fostering curiosity and connection. This project exemplifies the vision of GO! 2025.”
