This weekend, Trieste will host the 5th Borin Coastal Rowing Race, drawing nearly 400 athletes from Italy and abroad to compete in the waters off the city’s historic waterfront. The race, held on December 7-8, will be visible to spectators from the Molo Audace, with participants ranging from 17 to 75 years old.

Trieste’s Councillor for Sports, Elisa Lodi, praised the event as both a sporting and cultural showcase for the city. “It highlights Trieste’s unique coastal setting and brings international attention to our city,” she said.

The event also signals a major milestone for the city, which will host the National Coastal Rowing Championship in 2025 for the first time. The Borin Coastal Rowing Race has grown into a key fixture for the sport, with athletes from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Slovenia competing this year.

“This is just the beginning,” said Massimiliano D’Ambrosi of the Italian Rowing Federation, noting the city’s growing importance in the sport. The 2025 national championship is expected to bring 500 athletes to Trieste, solidifying its status as a hub for coastal rowing.
