In a city where the stars meet the sea, the Institute for Fundamental Physics of the Universe (IFPU) continues its tradition of engaging the public with cutting-edge scientific topics. On December 11, Miramare Castle will host the third installment of its popular series, “From Miramare to the Cosmos.”
Titled “Comets and Water,” this free event will be led by Marco Fulle from the Astronomical Observatory of Trieste (OATS). The lecture will explore the fascinating role comets have played in our understanding of the solar system, particularly their once-theorized role in bringing water to Earth.
“The event will take the audience on an imaginary journey through time and space, looking at the latest discoveries about these celestial bodies and the origins of water,” said Fulle. The talk will delve into how comets formed in the primordial gas and dust of the solar system and how their study, aided by the latest telescopes and space missions, has reshaped our knowledge of water’s role in the universe.
The event is part of a series of public science lectures aimed at bringing the public closer to fundamental research, focusing on themes such as astrophysics and cosmology. Attendees will also receive a free ticket to the Miramare Museum, which offers access to the castle and its Ars Botanica exhibition.
Tickets are limited to 60 for the event, available by reservation only. Due to high demand, early registration is recommended. The event, open to both local residents and visitors, promises to be a unique way to connect with the mysteries of the cosmos while celebrating the festive season.
To register, interested attendees can fill out a form on the IFPU website.
