The Tartini Conservatory of Trieste will celebrate the opening of its 2024/25 academic year with a highly anticipated concert on December 12 at the Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi, featuring over 80 musicians from Italy and abroad.

The evening will begin with the Tartini Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the acclaimed Silvia Massarelli, one of today’s most recognized conductors. The orchestra, composed of the Conservatory’s top students, will perform Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet suite, with soloist Milena Petković on viola. Massarelli, winner of the Critic’s Prize at the Prokofiev Competition in St. Petersburg, will guide the performance, which will be presented in a unique version for viola and orchestra.

The second half of the concert will feature the Tartini Jazz Orchestra, alongside musicians from the University of Arts in Belgrade’s Jazz Department. Led by Mirco Rubegni, the ensemble will perform Duke Ellington’s jazz reinterpretations of Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt suites.

Special academic awards will also be presented to the best graduates of the 2023/2024 academic year. The concert is open to the public and free of charge, offering a rare opportunity for the community to experience the Conservatory’s exceptional talent just before the holiday season.

The event highlights the Conservatory’s ongoing commitment to fostering young talent while maintaining a tradition of musical excellence in Trieste.
