Alessia Rosolen, Regional Councilor for Labor, Education, Training, and Universities, issued a call for action to the young attendees at the 13th Professions and Skills Fair in Trieste, urging them to remain in Friuli Venezia Giulia to support the region’s workforce. “The territory needs you now,” she told the crowd of students gathered at the Generali Convention Center.
Organized by the Chamber of Commerce Venezia Giulia, Aries, and Unioncamere, the event addressed the region’s urgent need for skilled talent as demographic shifts and the migration of young people abroad have exacerbated workforce challenges.
“Friuli Venezia Giulia has one of the highest employment rates in Italy, and unemployment is minimal compared to European standards,” Rosolen noted. She emphasized the opportunities available to young people in the region, citing local centers of excellence in research and science that could help them thrive professionally without needing to leave.
The fair, which runs through December 9, features 42 stands and workshops focused on youth entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, digital marketing, and cross-disciplinary skills. It also includes a session for parents of middle and high school students and a conference on the professions of the future, with estimates of more than 100 emerging career paths.
Rosolen’s comments reflect a growing regional focus on addressing skill shortages and bolstering local talent development amid Italy’s broader economic struggles, including stagnant wages and declining purchasing power.
