The picturesque village of Santa Croce is poised to transform into a festive wonderland on December 12, 2024, as it hosts “Merry Križ-mas 2024.” Organized by the Municipality of Trieste in partnership with the Slovene Cultural Association VESNA, the event promises to delight with performances by Slovene and Italian preschoolers and local choirs. However, the celebration will also bring significant traffic adjustments to ensure smooth operations.

Traffic Measures to Facilitate the Festivities

To prepare for the influx of visitors and ensure safety, the Municipality has issued Ordinance No. 1226-24, which implements the following measures:

  • No Parking and No Stopping Zones: From 2:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., parking and stopping will be prohibited along a 35-meter stretch between civic numbers 327 and 425, near the “Wall of Oppression” park. This restriction applies to both sides of the road.
  • Traffic Ban: A complete traffic ban will be enforced from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the same area to facilitate the event’s activities.

Exceptions for Essential Access

Acknowledging the needs of local residents and emergency services, authorities have outlined specific exemptions:

  • Emergency Vehicles: Unrestricted access for ambulances, fire trucks, and law enforcement vehicles.
  • Local Residents: Those with private parking within or near the restricted zone will be allowed to access their properties at walking speed, ensuring pedestrian safety.
  • Parked Vehicles: Vehicles already in designated parking zones can exit via the shortest route to open roads.

On-the-Spot Adjustments

Law enforcement and local police will be stationed on-site, authorized to make real-time adjustments to the regulations to address unforeseen circumstances or ensure public safety.

A Holiday Tradition with a Cultural Twist

“Merry Križ-mas 2024” is more than just a holiday event; it’s a celebration of Santa Croce’s unique cultural blend. By featuring Slovene and Italian traditions, the event highlights the spirit of unity and inclusivity that defines the region.

As the community comes together to celebrate, visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and embrace the season’s spirit of cooperation. The festive atmosphere, complete with joyful performances, is set to make this year’s “Merry Križ-mas” a highlight of the holiday season.
