The traditional New Year’s Eve celebration in Trieste’s iconic Piazza Unita d’Italia was unveiled Friday morning during a press conference in the municipal chamber. The event promises to deliver a dazzling evening of music, lights, and community spirit as the city bids farewell to a banner year and looks forward to 2025.

Addressing the media, Giorgio Rossi, the Councillor for Culture and Tourism, shared the significance of the year gone by: “2024 was exceptional for Trieste, with over 1.5 million tourists visiting our city to experience its unique blend of cultural events and high-quality services. For New Year’s Eve, we have invested €190,000, including costs for artists and safety measures, to create an international celebration welcoming both locals and visitors from across the region and neighboring countries like Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Austria.”

The evening’s entertainment, curated by the municipality with support from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, will be headlined by the celebrated local band Magazzino Commerciale and DJs from Radio Company. Fabio Sparago of Contatto Srl, the event’s organizer, promised a lineup designed to captivate audiences of all ages.

The festivities will kick off at 10:30 p.m. on December 31, featuring a seamless mix of live performances and DJ sets. The show culminates in a 15-minute fireworks display at midnight, synchronized with a stirring musical score that will light up the skies above the city.

A Celebration for All

This year’s headline act, Magazzino Commerciale, will expand its ensemble with a brass section and the powerful vocals of Gerry Zannier, delivering beloved Italian and international hits. Meanwhile, DJs Gianluca Pacini and Leo Feltrin will energize the crowd with a playlist ranging from 1970s and 1980s dance classics to contemporary international hits, seamlessly adapting to the mood of the audience. “The goal is to ensure everyone feels part of the celebration,” Sparago said.

Following the midnight pyrotechnics, the revelry will continue with more music and dancing, ensuring a night to remember for citizens and visitors alike.

Logistical Preparations

To accommodate the large crowds and ensure safety, access to Piazza Unita will be regulated through designated entry points on Via dell’Orologio, Passo Fratelli Fonda Savio, and the waterfront. Strict security measures will prohibit glass bottles, cups, and other potential hazards.

Traffic restrictions will be in place along key routes surrounding the square. Pedestrian and vehicular access to certain areas will be limited from December 27 until January 3 to facilitate stage setup and event operations. Looking Back and Moving Forward

“The end of the year is always a time for reflection,” Rossi remarked. “We hope this celebration honors Trieste’s historic spirit while embracing its growing role as a destination for global tourism. With this momentum, we step into 2025 with optimism and ambition.”
