In an effort to cultivate a sense of responsibility and community among the youngest residents, Trieste will host a series of free workshops aimed at children aged 3 to 6. The events, titled “Becoming Active Citizens – Workshops for Children”, are designed to encourage reading as a vital practice in shaping a generation of responsible citizens.
The workshops will be held on two dates: Monday, December 16, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Pier Antonio Gambini Municipal Library, and Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the “Un Villaggio per Crescere” center (Via Castaldi 4/b), during the same time. These interactive sessions are free to attend, open to children accompanied by an adult, and will feature a mix of storytelling and engaging activities in colorful settings.
Organized by Damatrà, a local youth group dedicated to promoting social causes, the workshops aim to foster a love for reading while emphasizing its importance as an act of social responsibility. The initiative is a collaboration with the USSM – Trieste’s Social Services Office for Minors – and the Municipality of Trieste. The events are intended not only to entertain but to help children grasp the deeper message of civic engagement through literature.
Participants will be enveloped in a world of colorfully decorated tents, where storytelling sessions will transport them to fantastical adventures within the pages of books. The workshops hope to instill in children the idea that reading is not just a form of entertainment but an essential tool in understanding the world and developing a strong moral compass.
The Bill: Library of Legality initiative, which sponsors these workshops, aims to nurture the values of legality, responsibility, and justice among young generations. By providing access to literature, Bill believes it can shape the minds of children, making the principles of justice and community central to their understanding of the world. According to the organization, books can play an essential role in helping children understand their place in society and the importance of upholding the law.
