In a notable development for Trieste the restoration of Barcola’s seafront has been completed 47 days ahead of schedule. The project, which involved the placement of 7,000 tons of boulders to strengthen the coastline, marks a significant milestone in safeguarding the area against future storm surges.
Michele Babuder, Trieste’s Councillor for Territorial Policies, expressed satisfaction with the timely completion of the works, which were launched a year after a powerful storm caused extensive damage to the seafront. “This intervention brings to a close the restoration efforts for Barcola’s coastline, ensuring its resilience for years to come,” Babuder noted.
In addition to the coastal fortifications, Babuder highlighted the reconstruction of four children’s play areas in Barcola and the renovation of five others in various neighborhoods throughout the city. These improvements aim to enhance recreational spaces for families and contribute to the quality of life for residents.
Looking ahead, the city is planning further urban regeneration initiatives in the districts of San Giacomo, Valmaura, and Giarizzole. These projects will adopt a participatory approach, engaging local residents and community groups in the planning and implementation process.
The restoration of Barcola’s seafront and the broader plans for urban renewal underscore Trieste’s commitment to resilience and community-centered development, as the city continues to invest in its public spaces and infrastructure.
