The quiet streets of Opicina, a picturesque village nestled on the Karst Plateau above Trieste, are set to come alive with holiday cheer on Saturday, December 21. At 4:00 PM, Piazzale Monte Re will transform into a winter wonderland as part of the annual event, “A Opicina… Natale con noi 2024” (Christmas with Us in Opicina 2024).
The highlight of the afternoon will be the arrival of Santa Claus, portrayed this year by local favorite Omar Marucelli. Children can look forward to sweet treats from Santa himself and the chance to ride in a horse-drawn carriage through the village streets. The horses and carriage are provided by the esteemed Šuc Company, ensuring a magical experience for all.
This festive gathering is the work of the Consorzio Centro in Via – Insieme a Opicina – Skupaj na Opčinah, in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste and the Altipiano Est’s Second District. The event also receives generous support from Confcommercio, Terziaria Trieste, and the Carso-Zadružna Kraška Banka Cooperative Credit Bank.
Beyond the event’s immediate charm, it underscores the community’s dedication to fostering holiday spirit and unity. “This event is not just about celebrating Christmas but about bringing people together,” a spokesperson for the Consorzio Centro in Via commented.
