In a city renowned for its historic elegance and cultural heritage, the Verdi Theater of Trieste is elevating the opera experience with a gastronomic twist. Beginning January 17, the theater will offer its patrons the chance to indulge in Lounge Victor de Sabata, a sophisticated intermission service set in the resplendent early 19th-century Ridotto Victor de Sabata.

The new service, which will be available exclusively during opening nights, promises an unparalleled blend of music, history, and fine dining. Guests can reserve a dedicated table and enjoy a curated tasting menu showcasing the gastronomic treasures of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

A Historic Setting for Modern Indulgence

The Ridotto Victor de Sabata, an exquisite hall whose decor reflects the refined aesthetic of early 19th-century Trieste, provides a fitting backdrop for this innovative experience. The lounge offers patrons a tranquil space to savor the intermission, transforming a customary pause into an immersive moment of taste and elegance.

“We were inspired by great international venues like the Vienna Opera,” said Giuliano Polo, Superintendent of the Verdi Theater. “However, our approach emphasizes the unique culinary excellence of our region. This initiative aligns with our mission to serve and promote the cultural and gastronomic richness of Friuli Venezia Giulia.”

A Menu That Honors Local Excellence

The Winter Menu, priced at €15 per person, is a testament to the theater’s commitment to local artisanship. Highlights include:

  • A glass of Brut Nature or Rosé Nature from Rodaro Wines (Friuli DOC Millesimato, Friulano DOP Colli Orientali).
  • Non-alcoholic aperitifs for those seeking a lighter refreshment.
  • Cornbread sticks paired with Osvaldo Prosciutto Crudo from Cormons.
  • A savory strudel with radicchio and Friulian sausage.
  • Cream of Pastorut Cheese from Carnia, drizzled with honey.

Patrons can secure their reservations at the box office until the day before the performance or until all slots are filled. The service is designed to complement rather than replace the theater’s traditional bar, which will continue its usual operations.

A Step Toward the Future

This initiative represents a significant enhancement of the Verdi Theater’s offerings, positioning it among Europe’s elite opera houses. Polo sees the lounge as part of a broader strategy to make the theater a cultural hub that celebrates not only the performing arts but also the culinary traditions that define the region.

“Our aim is to elevate every aspect of the opera-going experience,” Polo added. “Whether through our transportation services or this new lounge, we are committed to making the Verdi Theater a beacon of excellence for Trieste and beyond.”

With its unique blend of history, culture, and gastronomy, Lounge Victor de Sabata is set to become a must-visit feature for opera lovers, offering a luxurious and distinctly Triestine way to enjoy an evening at the theater.
