Over 350 of the world’s most promising young alpine skiers from 60 nations will gather in Tarvisio from February 24 to March 6, 2025, for the 44th Junior World Alpine Ski Championships. Organized by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) and PromoTurismoFVG, the event will feature six disciplines: downhill, super-G, giant slalom, slalom, and team events.

This marks the second time Tarvisio hosts the Championships, 23 years after its first turn on the global stage. Known for its pristine Julian Alps backdrop and premier ski slopes, the town will showcase two of its most iconic runs. The “Di Prampero” slope, famed for its length and natural beauty, will host speed events and team races, while the technically demanding “Priesnig B” will serve as the stage for slalom events.

A Global Stage

The opening ceremony on February 26 in Tarvisio’s Piazza Unità d’Italia—renamed “Medal Plaza” for the event—will kick off the competition. Each evening, the plaza will host medal ceremonies, with the final awards and closing event scheduled for March 6.

Accommodating over 600 athletes, coaches, and staff, as well as international media, the region aims to provide an unforgettable experience for visitors. Volunteers from across Friuli Venezia Giulia will ensure the event’s smooth execution.

Sustainability at Its Core

Highlighting sustainability, organizers will replace traditional fresh-flower bouquets with recycled-paper diplomas embedded with flower seeds. Winners’ trophies will be crafted from locally sourced wood, emphasizing the region’s commitment to sustainable forestry and its renowned Tarvisio Forest.

A Storied Venue

Tarvisio, located at the intersection of Italy, Slovenia, and Austria, is celebrated for its multicultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes. Its appeal extends beyond sport, offering travelers a glimpse into alpine traditions, natural beauty, and regional gastronomy.

With additional events like the Women’s European Cup and junior competitions in January 2025, Tarvisio is solidifying its position as a premier destination for winter sports.
