As New Year’s Eve approaches, residents in Trieste are preparing to celebrate with fireworks and pyrotechnic displays. Authorities, however, are emphasizing safety precautions to prevent accidents during the festivities.

The State Police have launched a campaign to monitor the sale and use of fireworks, conducting random inspections of retailers and targeting the circulation of illegal products. “Only purchase fireworks with proper CE certification and follow all safety instructions,” said Roberto Giarratana, coordinator of Trieste’s bomb squad.

Safety guidelines include storing fireworks in dry, cool places and lighting them outdoors, away from flammable materials and people. Windy weather can also pose risks, and authorities advise against using high-altitude fireworks in such conditions to prevent fires.

Age restrictions apply to many products: sparklers can only be purchased by those 14 and older, while more advanced items like Roman candles are reserved for adults. Certain professional-grade fireworks require special licenses.

Trieste will mark the new year with a large pyrotechnic display at Molo Audace, organized by licensed professionals. Retailers have been reminded to enforce regulations on sales, with penalties ranging from fines to criminal charges for noncompliance.

With preparations underway, local officials aim to ensure the celebrations proceed safely and responsibly.
