Favorable weather and impeccable slope conditions have turned Christmas 2024 into a milestone for Friuli Venezia Giulia’s mountain tourism, according to regional officials. The region’s six alpine centers recorded approximately 70,000 first entries between December 24 and 28, a 35.5% increase compared to the same period last year.

“These numbers highlight the growing appeal of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s mountains,” said Sergio Emidio Bini, the Regional Councillor for Productive Activities and Tourism. “They reflect years of dedicated efforts by the Regional Administration and PromoTurismoFVG to enhance our local hospitality, promote our destinations, and elevate the quality of our offerings both on the slopes and throughout the year.”

The holiday surge in visitors underscores the region’s transformation into a premier winter destination. Over the festive period, individual resorts reported robust attendance: Forni di Sopra and Sauris welcomed 3,787 visitors, Piancavallo saw 13,877, Sappada recorded 5,636, Sella Nevea attracted 2,797, Tarvisio drew 23,444, and Zoncolan hosted 19,916.

Even Christmas Day, traditionally a quieter time, saw significant turnout, with over 6,000 first entries registered on December 25 alone. “Many chose to celebrate on the slopes, making it a Christmas to remember,” Bini remarked.

Officials are optimistic about the season’s trajectory, with encouraging signs from the current weekend’s activity. This upward trend, they say, positions Friuli Venezia Giulia’s alpine offerings as a key driver for regional tourism, particularly as the New Year approaches.

“The data provides a solid foundation for continued growth,” Bini concluded. “Our mountains are not just a winter destination; they’re becoming a year-round attraction.”
