Bishop Enrico Trevisi inaugurated the Jubilee Year with a heartfelt homily delivered during a special Mass at the Cathedral on Sunday. His message centered on themes of hope, resilience, and solidarity, addressing the challenges faced by families and communities in an increasingly turbulent world.

Reflecting on the biblical figures of Mary and Joseph, Bishop Trevisi drew parallels between their struggles and those of modern parents burdened by economic uncertainty, illness, and social inequalities. He highlighted the plight of families trapped in cycles of poverty and the widespread impact of war, migration, and systemic injustice.

“Today, the humiliation of many parents is repeated for various reasons,” the bishop said, pointing to precarious employment, health challenges, and the erasure of opportunities for upward mobility. He also expressed concern about societies closing their doors to the vulnerable, including refugees and expectant mothers.

Despite these difficulties, Bishop Trevisi offered a message of hope, urging the faithful to embrace the light of Christ as a source of strength and guidance. He reminded attendees of their role as “pilgrims of hope,” emphasizing the importance of spiritual reflection, mutual support, and active engagement in addressing societal challenges.

The bishop encouraged individuals and communities to renew their faith through personal prayer, participation in the sacraments, and service to others, particularly the marginalized. He called for greater volunteerism and solidarity, advocating for justice and compassion as central tenets of the Christian journey.

This Jubilee Year, Bishop Trevisi announced, will feature a series of diocesan and national events, including pilgrimages to Rome. He urged everyone to approach the year as an opportunity for spiritual growth and renewed commitment to their faith.

“Do not be afraid: I am with you,” the bishop concluded, quoting scripture to underscore the enduring presence of God as the foundation of hope.

The Jubilee Year, observed every 25 years in the Catholic Church, is a time for reflection, renewal, and reconciliation, drawing millions of faithful worldwide to engage in acts of faith and charity.
