A romantic gesture took a dramatic turn late Sunday night when a 41-year-old Irish tourist fell into the icy waters of Trieste’s Marina San Giusto while proposing to his girlfriend.
Authorities said the man, who appeared heavily intoxicated, lost his balance and tumbled into the harbor near Molo Venezia. Emergency services, including firefighters, the Coast Guard, and paramedics, responded swiftly. The man was rescued by the local fire brigade’s dive team.
Officials reported he was showing early signs of hypothermia and sustained minor injuries, but he is not in serious condition. His fiancée, unharmed, remained onshore during the ordeal.
While the man is recovering, one question lingers: did she say “I do”?
