The 10th edition of the Corsa della Bora, Italy’s premier winter trail running event, concluded today in Portopiccolo with cheers, celebrations, and record participation. Nearly 3,000 runners from around the world took on nine challenging race distances, spanning the rugged Karst terrain from Trieste to the Isontino and along the Italian-Slovenian border.
The event, organized by ASD SentieroUno, was hailed as a resounding success by both organizers and participants, bolstered by clear weather and a vibrant atmosphere. “This was our best edition yet,” said Tommaso de Mottoni, president of ASD SentieroUno and race director. “The energy of the runners, the community support, and the unique experience we’ve created make this milestone year unforgettable.”
Top Performers
Among the highlights of the day was the grueling Anniversary Ultra 105 Km, where chef Marco Gubert and Triestine researcher Nicol Guidolin captured the spotlight with standout performances. Guidolin, a returning champion, tackled the longest distance for the first time, adding another victory to her impressive record.
The two-stage Expedition Ultra 50 + 50 Km saw Alice Modignani Fasoli and Agustin Pecantet dominate, while the S1 Explorer Ultra 84 Km featured stellar finishes from Danilo Mondo and Chiara Boggio.
The Corsa della Bora also showcased inclusivity, with shorter non-competitive distances attracting families and recreational participants, further cementing the event as a celebration of community and athleticism.
A Unique Experience
Beyond the races, the event doubled as a cultural and gastronomic festival. The finish line at Portopiccolo featured a zero-kilometer menu highlighting local culinary delights, offering runners and spectators a taste of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s rich heritage.
The new Awards Lounge, hosted by journalists Nicola Santini and Fabiana Romanutti, added a polished touch to the event. Broadcast live, the lounge featured interviews with race winners, local officials, and contributors to the event’s growth over the past decade.
Looking Ahead
With another record-breaking year in the books, organizers are already planning for the 2026 edition. “The growing interest in this event is incredible,” de Mottoni said. “Next year, we may need to set limits on participation, but our goal remains the same: to offer an unparalleled experience that blends athletic challenge with the beauty of this region.”
As the sun set over Portopiccolo, runners and organizers alike reflected on an extraordinary weekend that marked a decade of the Corsa della Bora and set the stage for even greater achievements in the years to come.
