Italy’s transportation system will face significant disruption on Friday, January 10, as multiple strikes are set to affect commuters, travelers, and airport services. The day has been dubbed Venerdì Nero, or “Black Friday,” by the Italian media, as a series of industrial actions are planned across the country.
A nationwide four-hour strike will impact local public transport services in major cities including Milan and Rome. The strike, organized by the Faisa-Confail trade union in a dispute over wages, will affect bus, subway, and tram services. Commuters in Rome can expect delays between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., while in Milan, ATM transport services will be disrupted from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
In addition, workers at Milan’s Linate and Malpensa airports, as well as at Venice Marco Polo airport, have planned a 24-hour strike on Friday, leading to potential delays and cancellations in airport services.
Train travel will also be affected, with railway maintenance workers staging a separate 24-hour strike from 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, through to the same time the following day. Disruptions to train services are expected during this period.
Passengers are advised to check official information from Italy’s Ministry of Transport for the latest updates on the strikes and their impact on services.
