The Municipality of Trieste has announced the closure of its enclosed public gardens on Monday, January 13, citing adverse weather conditions. The decision comes in response to forecasts predicting severe weather, including Bora winds expected to reach speeds of up to 100 km/h, which could pose significant safety risks to the public.

While the sky is expected to remain mostly clear, the powerful Bora winds will sweep across the coastal and eastern areas of the city, ranging from moderate to sustained, with particularly strong gusts anticipated in Trieste. In mountainous regions, northeast winds are forecast to intensify, and widespread overnight frost is expected across plains and valleys.

The closures will affect several of the city’s most frequented green spaces, including the “de Tommasini” Garden on Via Giulia, the “Falcone e Borsellino” Garden in Altura, and the historic Villa Revoltella. Despite the restrictions, the church within Villa Revoltella will remain accessible during its regular hours.

Additional closures will impact the following locations:

  • Basevi Garden
  • “Fra M.V. Antollovich” Garden on Via Carpineto
  • “Wanda e Marion Wulz” Garden on Via Catullo
  • “Fedora Barbieri” Garden on Via Mascagni
  • Gardens on Via San Michele and Campagna Prandi
  • Villa Cosulich Garden on Strada del Friuli
  • Villa Engelmann Garden on Via Chiadino
  • Bazzoni Park on Via Navali
  • Skatepark on Via Petitti di Roreto
  • Gardens on Piazza Hortis, Vicolo dell’Edera, and Via Molino a Vento
  • Maddalena Garden on Via Costalunga

The garden at Villa Sartorio on Via dei Modiano will remain open exclusively for staff performing essential maintenance work.

City officials emphasized that these precautionary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the extreme weather. Updates on the status of the gardens will be provided as conditions evolve.
