Trieste is wrapping up its holiday season as the city begins dismantling its festive decorations. Christmas trees in Piazza Unità d’Italia and other central locations, along with street lights, installations, and the luminous sword projected from San Giusto, will be removed starting January 15. This date marks the end of the festive period, coinciding with the conclusion of Serbian Orthodox community celebrations.
The process will begin in the city center and gradually extend to surrounding areas, with the dismantling expected to be completed by early February. Decorations will be carefully removed using cranes and trucks to handle the large trees and heavy bases.
One seasonal feature, the ice-skating rink at Ponterosso, will remain operational until February 16. The rink’s extended opening is part of an annual option provided by the municipality and reflects its popularity among residents and visitors. Operating hours will remain unchanged in the coming weeks.
Local stores have also transitioned from the holidays, replacing Christmas merchandise with items and decorations for the next major event on the city’s calendar: Carnival.
After weeks of festivities, Trieste is preparing to turn the page on its holiday season while gearing up for the lively atmosphere of the upcoming Carnival celebrations.
