Beatrice Venezi, one of Italy’s most prominent conductors, is set to present her latest book, “Puccini contro tutti. Arie, fughe e capricci di un genio anticonformista” (Puccini Against All: Arias, Fugues, and Caprices of a Nonconformist Genius), on January 22 at the Sala Bartoli of the Politeama Rossetti. This free event will feature a conversation between Venezi and theater historian Paolo Quazzolo, offering an intimate exploration of Giacomo Puccini’s life, works, and enduring cultural impact.

A native of Puccini’s hometown, Torre del Lago, Venezi has been immersed in the composer’s legacy since childhood. Her book, published by Utet, marks the centenary of Puccini’s death with an unconventional biography. Through 11 vividly recounted moments, Venezi combines storytelling with the music that made Puccini a household name, creating what she describes as a “symphony of emotions.”

In recent weeks, Venezi has been making waves in Trieste. She conducted the FVG Orchestra in the musical concert “The Reunion: West End & Broadway Musical Stars in Concert” on January 15 and 16 and is now leading performances of Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” at the Teatro Lirico G. Verdi through January 26.

Known for her bold approach to classical music, Venezi’s insights into Puccini promise to be just as dynamic. She paints a portrait of the composer not only as a groundbreaking musician but also as a charismatic media figure—a man ahead of his time who embraced innovation and global celebrity with ease.

For anyone captivated by Puccini’s music or curious about his life, Venezi’s presentation offers a chance to see the maestro through the lens of one of Italy’s most accomplished modern conductors.
