Authorities in Trieste have established three “red zones” to combat rising incidents of violence and theft. Effective January 20 through March 31, these areas prohibit individuals with criminal records or law enforcement flags from lingering.

The initiative, led by Prefect Pietro Signoriello, aims to protect key parts of the city’s historic and commercial districts:

  • Zone 1: Molo Audace, the Rive, Piazza Verdi, and nearby streets.
  • Zone 2: Piazza della Libertà, Corso Cavour, Piazza Oberdan, and Via Carducci.
  • Zone 3: Via Limitanea, Piazza Garibaldi, Largo Barriera, and Scala dei Giganti.

President Massimiliano Fedriga praised the measure, stating, “It is essential to monitor and address incidents to ensure our residents’ safety.” Police presence has already been increased in these zones.

The mayor is considering additional restrictions, such as limiting alcohol sales and operating hours for food establishments, to further ensure security.
