A significant milestone has been reached in the revitalization of Trieste’s industrial zone as Edil Group announced the acquisition of a property in the former Principe area, located at Via Josip Ressel 1. The move aims to transform the currently abandoned site into a hub for sustainable development, marking a step forward in the region’s economic renewal.

The redevelopment will feature a state-of-the-art facility with advanced infrastructure designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce seismic risks. Edil Group is also exploring the installation of a modern photovoltaic system to power the building and support the creation of a local energy community for the industrial area.

Vincenzo Settimo of Edil Group highlighted the project’s broader significance, stating, “As a Benefit Corporation, we are committed to sustainable initiatives that positively impact the environment, the economy, and society.” The acquisition is set to be completed by spring, initiating a transformation expected to create jobs and provide a model for urban regeneration.

Regional Councillor for Productive Activities and Tourism, Sergio Emidio Bini, emphasized the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors. The property was included in the regional Masterplan for degraded industrial sites, which maps over 220 such areas eligible for public support. “This project underscores the region’s ability to attract investments focused on sustainability, growth, and innovation,” Bini stated.

The redevelopment has drawn praise from local leaders. Sandra Primiceri, Vice President of Coselag, described the initiative as a “model of excellence” for Friuli Venezia Giulia, while Alessandro Coretti, Mayor of San Dorligo della Valle-Dolina, noted the increasing prominence of the Breg territory, once seen as peripheral but now attracting both local and multinational investors.

The project reflects a broader vision for Trieste as a center for sustainable industrial innovation and a key driver of regional economic growth. As construction moves forward, the initiative promises to breathe new life into the former Principe area, creating opportunities and setting a precedent for future redevelopment efforts.
