A yellow weather alert has been issued by the regional Civil Protection for the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, excluding the province of Trieste, due to a powerful Atlantic front expected to affect the area from the evening of Monday, January 27, through the evening of Tuesday, January 28. This storm system will bring intense winds and heavy precipitation, particularly impacting the Pre-Alps and the Julian Alps.

The alert will be in effect from 9:00 PM on Monday until midnight on Tuesday, as the region braces for strong sirocco winds blowing across the upper Adriatic. These winds, paired with southwest gusts at higher altitudes, are anticipated to create hazardous conditions, especially along the Pre-Alps. While the storm’s most intense effects are expected to subside after Tuesday evening, residents should prepare for a significant weather event in the meantime.

According to the forecasts from ARPA FVG (Regional Environmental Protection Agency), the situation will begin to escalate Monday afternoon, with increasing precipitation across the region, particularly in the upper plains and mountainous areas. Snow levels will initially be around 1200 to 1400 meters, gradually rising as the storm intensifies. The coast will experience moderate to strong sirocco winds, while the mountains will face heavy rainfall and snow, particularly in the Pre-Alps, where snow levels are expected to rise overnight.

By Tuesday morning, the region can expect moderate to heavy rainfall on the coast, with more intense precipitation inland, possibly including thunderstorms. Snow levels will climb to around 1800-2000 meters in the Pre-Alps and 1300-1500 meters in the more inland areas, such as towards Cadore. A break in the rain is forecasted for the afternoon, with conditions likely clearing by the evening. On the coast, strong sirocco winds will continue, potentially causing storm surges between Lignano and Grado, along with the possibility of high tides. Additionally, strong southwest winds are expected to impact higher altitudes throughout the day.

Temperatures are forecasted to remain unusually high for this time of year, contributing to the intense weather conditions. The regional authorities have urged residents to stay informed and take precautions, as the storm could bring a combination of heavy rain, snow, and strong winds.
