Air travelers in Italy are bracing for disruption on Wednesday, February 5, as baggage handlers at multiple airports, including Rome and Milan, plan strike action. The walkouts are set to impact both domestic and international flights, with significant delays expected.

Two separate strikes are scheduled for Wednesday. The first, lasting four hours from midday until 4:00 p.m., will involve SEA Prime employees at Milan’s Linate airport, causing potential disruptions for travelers at the busy airport.

The second strike, a nationwide action led by the Flai Trasporti e Servizi and USB Lavoro Privato trade unions, will affect airports across Italy for 24 hours. Major airports, including Fiumicino and Ciampino, in Rome, and Linate and Malpensa in Milan, will be affected by the industrial action, likely leading to significant delays and cancelations.

Italy’s national carrier, ITA Airways, has already confirmed the cancelation of 26 flights scheduled for Wednesday, including routes to and from Milan, Rome, London, and Frankfurt. The cancelations reflect the widespread impact of the strike on both domestic and international connections.

Travelers are urged to check the status of their flights with airlines before heading to the airport. Italy’s civil aviation authority, ENAC, has provided information on guaranteed flight times, with affected flights expected to be rescheduled during two legally protected time windows: from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

For further details on upcoming strikes and transport disruptions, passengers can visit the Italian Ministry of Transport’s website.
