The Ubik Bookstore in Trieste has announced its February 2025 schedule, featuring a diverse lineup of literary and cultural events that highlight the city’s role as a crossroads of languages, traditions, and artistic influences.

Among the notable events is a conference on February 10 marking World Greek Language Day, featuring scholar Giacomo Klein, who will discuss the evolution of Greek from Katharevousa to Demotic Greek. The event is organized by the Greek Oriental Community of Trieste in collaboration with Ubik Bookstore and the Trieste-Greece Association.

On February 11, the bookstore will host a theater series titled “The Trauma of Angst”, beginning with a reinterpretation of Gustav Meyrink’s The Green Face by Eleonora Ferrari. Additional sessions in the series will feature works by Von Hofmannsthal, Kubin, and Ferrari herself.

Food culture is also a focus, with multiple events under the theme “Trieste, A Port of Flavors.” On February 12, food writer Fabiana Romanutti will present We Love Sardoni, a book exploring the local culinary heritage. On February 21, Adriana Obersnel will examine the dietary habits of ancient Greece in The Recipes of Demeter, and on February 26, Federico Vidic will discuss the concept of Food Diplomacy.

Poetry will take center stage on February 17, when critic Enzo Santese leads a gathering of poets and musicians in an event titled “Verse by / Verse.”

On February 27, a discussion on international politics will accompany the presentation of Peace First: Writings and Speeches on International Politics (1972-1978), a collection of works by former Italian Communist Party leader Enrico Berlinguer. The event, co-organized with Irsrec FVG, will include contributions from academics specializing in modern European history.

The month will conclude with a February 28 presentation by Slovenian writer Dušan Jelinčič on his book The Sea Beyond the Bars, in conversation with historian Marta Verginella of the University of Ljubljana.

The schedule also includes programming for young audiences, such as a February 23 storytelling event for children aged 1 to 3.

Most events will take place at the Ubik Bookstore in the Galleria del Tergesteo, with select talks hosted at the Greek Community Headquarters.
