As heavy winds and storms threaten the city, officials in Trieste announced the closure of several fenced public gardens beginning Friday, February 14, until further notice. The decision, made by municipal authorities, aims to ensure public safety amid worsening weather conditions.

The affected green spaces, popular among residents and visitors alike, include some of Trieste’s most frequented parks:

  • Giardino Pubblico “de Tommasini” on Via Giulia
  • Giardino “Falcone e Borsellino” in Altura
  • Giardino Basevi
  • Giardino “Fra M.V. Antollovich” on Via Carpineto
  • Giardino “Wanda e Marion Wulz” on Via Catullo
  • Giardino “Fedora Barbieri” on Via Mascagni
  • Giardino on Via San Michele and Campagna Prandi
  • Giardino di Villa Cosulich on Strada del Friuli
  • Giardino di Villa Engelmann on Via Chiadino
  • Parco Bazzoni on Via Navali
  • Skatepark on Via Petitti di Roreto
  • Giardino in Piazza Hortis
  • Giardino in Vicolo dell’Edera
  • Giardino Maddalena on Via Molino a Vento and Via Costalunga
  • Villa Revoltella, with church access maintained during regular hours

The closures follow forecasts predicting strong winds and persistent rain, which city officials warn could lead to falling branches and other hazards. “Safety is our top priority,” a municipal spokesperson stated. “We will monitor conditions closely and reopen these spaces as soon as it is safe to do so.”

One exception to the closure is the garden of Villa Sartorio on Via dei Modiano, which will remain open but only for work-related activities within the buildings on site.

Residents have expressed disappointment but acknowledge the necessity of the measures. “It’s unfortunate, especially for families and dog owners who frequent these parks daily, but safety comes first,” said a local resident.

Trieste, known for its strong bora winds, has seen severe weather in the past disrupt daily life. Officials urge caution and recommend avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities until conditions improve.

Authorities have yet to announce a reopening date but will provide updates as the situation evolves.
