The Municipality of Trieste announced that beginning Tuesday, February 18, 2025, a series of roadworks will commence on Viale Miramare, a key thoroughfare connecting the city center to its coastal areas. The project, part of the city’s three-year public works plan, aims to improve road conditions through resurfacing, restoration, and asphalt paving.
The initial phase of the project will focus on the section between Salita di Cedassamare and No. 303 of Viale Miramare, with an estimated duration of one week, contingent on weather conditions. While work is underway, only minor traffic disruptions are expected, limited to lane narrowing.
Subsequent phases will include resurfacing additional sections of Viale Miramare: one segment between the junction with the coastal road and the parking area of Miramare Park, expected to last one week, and another extending from Salita di Contovello to Piazzale 11 Settembre, scheduled for two weeks. In both cases, traffic will be affected only by lane restrictions rather than full closures.
Michele Babuder, Trieste’s municipal councillor for territorial policies, emphasized the broader significance of the project. “The maintenance and refurbishment of Viale Miramare and the Barcola waterfront represent an essential investment in one of the most frequented and cherished areas of our city,” Babuder said. He also acknowledged the financial support of the Regional Civil Protection, which helped secure funding for the redevelopment of the waterfront.
In addition, Babuder extended gratitude to the CRTrieste Foundation for its contribution to the restoration of Barcola Pinewood, a site of ecological and recreational importance. “These interventions are part of a wider strategy to enhance and preserve our public spaces, ensuring they remain accessible and welcoming for all,” he stated.
The project, which carries a total budget of €750,000, has been awarded to the construction firm Nord Asfalti S.R.L. The work is being overseen by engineers Gustavo Zandanel, Paolo Giorgi, and Daniele Crisman.
Local authorities have assured residents that disruptions will be kept to a minimum and have urged patience as the improvements are carried out. The enhancements are expected to provide long-term benefits for both daily commuters and visitors to one of Trieste’s most scenic coastal routes.
