On Friday, February 28, at 9:30 a.m., the Fanfare of the 4th Mounted Regiment of the Carabinieri will perform in Piazza Unità d’Italia. The event, organized by the Municipality of Trieste and the Carabinieri, is free and open to the public, with a particular focus on local schools.
The Mounted Fanfare, the oldest musical unit of the Carabinieri, dates back to 1829. Initially created to convey commands on the battlefield, the ensemble has since evolved into a ceremonial and concert band, performing at official state events, military parades, and public celebrations in Italy and abroad.
The 32-member group is led by Special Lieutenant Fabio Tassinari, who has directed its musical performances since 2001. The concert will feature a repertoire ranging from traditional marches to classical compositions, many inspired by the rhythmic movement of horses. The performance will also include the Carabinieri’s mascot, Briciola, a mixed-breed dog that has been part of the unit since 2014.
The Fanfare regularly participates in high-profile events, including the Changing of the Guard at the Quirinale Palace and the Republic Day parade in Rome. It has performed in major Italian cities and internationally, including London and Windsor for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.
The Municipality of Trieste encourages residents and visitors to attend the event, highlighting it as an opportunity to experience a longstanding Italian tradition in one of the city’s most iconic locations.
