The 44th Junior World Alpine Ski Championships are set to commence this Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in the picturesque town of Tarvisio. The event will run through March 6, bringing together over 350 promising young athletes from 60 nations.

This marks the second time Tarvisio has hosted the championships, the first being 23 years ago. The competitions will take place on two of the region’s renowned slopes: the “Di Prampero,” known for its length and natural beauty, will host speed events and team races, while the technically demanding “Priesnig B” will serve as the stage for slalom events.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for February 26 in Tarvisio’s Piazza Unità d’Italia, temporarily renamed “Medal Plaza” for the duration of the event. Each evening, the plaza will host medal ceremonies, culminating in the final awards and closing event on March 6.

Organizers have emphasized sustainability, opting to replace traditional fresh-flower bouquets with recycled-paper diplomas embedded with flower seeds. Winners’ trophies will be crafted from locally sourced wood, highlighting the region’s commitment to sustainable practices.

Beyond the competition, the championship has provided a major tourism boost. Regional Councillor for Tourism Sergio Bini confirmed that all hotels in Tarvisio and the surrounding areas have sold out, reflecting the excitement and international draw of the event.

Tarvisio, nestled at the intersection of Italy, Slovenia, and Austria, is celebrated for its multicultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes. Visitors can immerse themselves in alpine traditions, natural beauty, and regional gastronomy as the town prepares for an unforgettable championship.
