A conference held at the Chamber of Commerce of Venezia Giulia on Monday examined the future of the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone, focusing on market trends, infrastructure priorities, and regional economic impacts.
The event, titled “Priorities in the Ports of Trieste and Monfalcone: Perspectives, Market Scenarios, and Impacts on the Territory,” was organized by Confcommercio Trieste and Terziaria Venezia Giulia in collaboration with Confindustria Alto Adriatico. It was also sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of Venezia Giulia.
The conference opened with remarks from Antonio Paoletti, president of the Provincial Confcommercio; Cristina Amirante, the regional councillor for infrastructure and territory; Luciano Del Prete, maritime director of Friuli Venezia Giulia and commander of the Trieste Port Authority; and Massimiliano Ciarrocchi, general director of Confindustria Alto Adriatico. Trieste Mayor Roberto Dipiazza also delivered greetings.
A roundtable discussion followed, moderated by Diego D’Amelio, a journalist from Il Piccolo. Participants included Vittorio Torbianelli, commissioner of the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea; Antonio Gurrieri, the authority’s secretary general; and Zeno D’Agostino, former president of the same organization. The discussion covered key issues related to the two maritime hubs, their infrastructure, and the economic sectors tied to port operations.
The conference underscored the strategic importance of the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone as gateways for international trade. Discussions also addressed the challenges posed by evolving market demands and the necessity for continued investment in port infrastructure to maintain competitiveness.
The event reflected broader regional concerns about economic development and the role of port logistics in shaping the future of Trieste and its surrounding areas.
