The city of Trieste is making a bold pitch to global investors this week at MIPIM, the world’s premier real estate fair, showcasing its ambitious “Porto Vecchio – Porto Vivo” redevelopment project. Set to transform a historic waterfront district into a dynamic urban hub, the project is among the most significant urban renewal efforts in Italy in recent decades.

MIPIM, held annually at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, attracts the world’s leading developers, financiers, and urban planners. This year’s event, running from March 11 to 14, features 300 exhibitors and 20,000 delegates representing 90 countries. With €4 trillion in managed assets circulating among investors, the fair serves as a crucial platform for securing funding and forging international partnerships.

Everest Bertoli, Trieste’s Councillor for Porto Vivo and Project Financing, emphasized the importance of the event. “This is the largest regeneration project the city has undertaken in decades,” he said. “We approved the public utility resolution last October, and we are now focused on promoting this public-private partnership and preparing for the upcoming international tender. MIPIM provides an unparalleled global stage to showcase our vision.”

Trieste’s presence at MIPIM is bolstered by collaboration with the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the development agency Sviluppo&Impresa. Their exhibition features an interactive multimedia model of the Porto Vecchio site, designed in partnership with Divulgando Srl, which provides a detailed visualization of the transformation in progress. The model and additional digital content are also accessible online at www.portovivotrieste.it.

The redevelopment project aims to breathe new life into Porto Vecchio, a historic but underutilized port area, by integrating residential, commercial, and cultural spaces. As European cities compete to attract investment in sustainable urban development, Trieste is positioning itself as a forward-looking destination for innovation and economic growth.

Visitors to MIPIM can explore the “Porto Vecchio – Porto Vivo” project at the Italy Pavilion, within the dedicated Friuli Venezia Giulia exhibition space.
