The health of Pope Francis, who has been receiving treatment at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital for more than three weeks, continues to show signs of improvement, prompting doctors to lift their previously “guarded” prognosis. However, medical experts caution that the 88-year-old pontiff’s condition remains “complex” and that his hospitalization will continue for an unspecified period.

A Vatican statement on Monday confirmed that recent tests indicated a “further consolidation” of the pope’s health. Despite this progress, his doctors emphasize the need for continued vigilance, underscoring the seriousness of his medical condition.

Pope Francis remains engaged in his spiritual and administrative duties from the hospital. On Monday, he followed the Roman Curia’s annual Lenten spiritual exercises via video link, a practice he continued throughout the day, alternating between prayer and rest. The Vatican also noted that a Rosary dedicated to the pope’s health is being held every evening this week at 6 p.m. in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall.

Medical updates indicate that the pontiff continues to receive oxygen therapy, using a mask at night and high-flow nasal cannulas during the day. While Vatican officials have not disclosed details of his underlying illness, they stress that his recovery is being closely monitored.

The prolonged hospitalization of Pope Francis has raised concerns among the faithful, though Vatican officials remain optimistic about his eventual recovery. As the Lenten season progresses, the pope’s health remains a central concern for Catholics around the world, with prayers and well-wishes pouring in from across the globe.
