The American Corner Trieste and the Associazione Italo Americana FVG will host an English-language conference featuring Kaitlyn Parrinello, an astrophysicist and Fulbright researcher, as part of Women’s History Month and Women in Science. The event will take place at 6:00 PM at Piazza Sant’Antonio Nuovo, 6, in Trieste. Admission is free.
Parrinello, a 2024 graduate of Villanova University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in Pennsylvania, earned a double major in Astronomy and Astrophysics and Italian Studies. She is currently in Trieste as a Fulbright Scholar, focusing her research on gamma-ray astronomy, particularly on X-ray binary systems such as GRS 1915+105. Her work has been presented at the American Astronomical Society Conference, one of the leading international gatherings for astrophysics research.
Last year, Parrinello conducted research in Trieste through a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Energy and the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics. Her ongoing work continues to contribute to the understanding of high-energy astrophysical phenomena.
The conference offers an opportunity for attendees to engage with cutting-edge developments in astrophysics and gain insight into the experiences of a young international scientist. The event is open to the public.
As part of its Women’s History Month programming, the American Corner Trieste will also screen the documentary Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story on March 25 at 11:00 AM. The film explores the life of Hedy Lamarr, an actress and inventor whose contributions were foundational to the development of modern wireless communication technology. The screening will be in English, with a runtime of 90 minutes.
