Firefighters responded to a blaze in an abandoned warehouse in the Old Port of Trieste on Tuesday afternoon, officials said. No injuries were reported, but law enforcement identified three individuals found inside the building.

The fire was first reported around 4 p.m. by passersby who noticed a column of smoke rising from the structure. Emergency crews, including a fire engine and an aerial ladder unit, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Firefighters located the flames on the first floor, where thick smoke had begun to billow from the building.

Due to the hazardous conditions, firefighters donned self-contained breathing apparatuses before entering the smoke-filled warehouse to contain and extinguish the fire. Ventilation measures were then implemented using specialized electric fans to clear the premises of lingering smoke.

During an inspection of the upper floors, firefighters discovered three individuals inside the building. They were escorted out and subsequently identified by law enforcement. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding their presence in the structure.

As of Tuesday evening, efforts to ventilate the affected areas were nearing completion. A preliminary inspection of the site found no other occupants. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials said.

Local law enforcement and emergency medical personnel remained on the scene as a precautionary measure.
