In a rare opportunity for theatergoers, the cast of Anna Karenina, currently in performance at the Politeama Rossetti, will take part in a public discussion on March 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the theater’s intimate Sala Bartoli. The event, organized by the Teatro Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia in collaboration with the Circolo della Cultura e delle Arti di Trieste, will be hosted by theater historian Paolo Quazzolo.

The discussion offers a deeper look into the production directed by Luca De Fusco, a stage adaptation of Tolstoy’s novel. The celebrated opening line—“All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way”—sets the tone for a work that continues to resonate nearly 150 years after its publication. The panel will explore the novel’s enduring themes, the adaptation’s vision, and the challenges of bringing Tolstoy’s complex characters to life.

Leading the cast is Galatea Ranzi as Anna Karenina, with Debora Bernardi, Francesco Biscione, Giovanna Mangiù, Giacinto Palmarini, Stefano Santospago, Paolo Serra, Mersila Sokoli, and Irene Tetto in supporting roles. The production delves into the turbulent emotions of its protagonist and the suffocating social expectations of the time—an aspect that remains strikingly relevant today.

Attendees will gain insight into the creative process, as cast members discuss how they have embodied these deeply layered characters. With a production that scrutinizes the contradictions of love and duty, passion and repression, the actors will reflect on how their performances have been shaped by the story’s enduring power.

Admission to the event is free, though seating is limited. More information is available at www.ilrossetti.it or by calling +39 040 3593511.
