Two of Trieste’s historic industrial landmarks, the Electrical Substation and the Hydrodynamic Power Plant in Porto Vecchio, will open to the public for free guided tours in April as part of an initiative to promote the city’s cultural heritage.

The tours, organized by the local chapter of the heritage organization Italia Nostra in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste, will offer visitors an opportunity to explore these 19th-century facilities, which played a critical role in the city’s maritime and industrial development.

Each tour will last approximately 90 minutes, with morning visits beginning at 10:00 a.m. and afternoon visits at 4:00 p.m. Participants will meet at the Electrical Substation on Viale Miramare 24/d at 9:45 a.m. for morning tours and at 3:45 p.m. for afternoon sessions. The scheduled tour dates are April 2, April 9, and April 23.

Advance reservations are required at least five days prior to the tour date and can be made by emailing trieste@italianostra.org. Italia Nostra has also indicated that group visits can be arranged on request.

The Porto Vecchio district, once a bustling trade hub, has been the focus of a broader revitalization effort aimed at integrating its industrial past with contemporary cultural and economic initiatives. The upcoming tours are part of this ongoing effort to make the site more accessible to the public while highlighting its historical significance.
