In response to a rise in scams targeting vulnerable populations, local authorities and community organizations in Trieste are launching a series of public information sessions aimed at equipping residents with the knowledge to recognize and prevent fraud.
The initiative, titled “Defending Against Fraud: Tips and Strategies,” is a collaboration between the Carabinieri and the cooperatives LA.SE and La Collina. The program will consist of three free educational meetings at municipal libraries across the city on April 4, April 11, and April 15.
According to officials, the effort is designed to address increasingly sophisticated scams, particularly those that prey on older individuals. Law enforcement representatives from the Carabinieri stations in Via dell’Istria and Borgo San Sergio will lead the sessions, providing practical advice on identifying fraudulent schemes and reporting suspicious activity.
“Fraud schemes are becoming more pervasive and complex,” a spokesperson for the initiative said. “The best defense is awareness, prevention, and collaboration with institutions.”
Authorities stress that the sessions are open to all residents, with a focus on teaching attendees how to recognize warning signs and take swift action when faced with potential scams.
