The Municipality of Trieste reaffirmed its commitment to workplace safety and employee rights on Monday, presenting the latest findings from the city’s Anti-Mobbing Support Center. At a press conference held in the municipal government’s Sala Giunta, officials highlighted the center’s continued role in addressing workplace harassment and psychological distress.

Deputy Mayor Serena Tonel, who also serves as the city’s Councilor for Economic Policies, announced the administration’s plans to extend support for the center through 2025. “The numbers demonstrate that this service is an essential safeguard for workers,” Tonel said. “For the municipal administration, ensuring its operation is not just a priority but a responsibility to the citizens.”

The Anti-Mobbing Support Center, managed by Anolf FVG APS under an agreement with the Municipality of Trieste, provides free and confidential consultations for individuals facing workplace harassment. The center operates with support from the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and is housed in a municipal facility on Via dei Capitelli, chosen for its privacy and accessibility.

Elisa Lodi, Councillor for Real Estate Asset Policies and Sports, emphasized the initiative’s effectiveness. “The numbers speak for themselves, illustrating how the project addresses a range of issues in both the private and public sectors,” she said. “We are committed to ensuring that this service continues to provide necessary support to those who need it.”

In 2024, the center recorded 81 active requests for assistance. The majority (64%) originated from the private sector, with a significant portion (78%) involving individuals on permanent contracts, which typically provide stronger workplace protections. A notable 79% of cases involved individuals aged 40 and older, with many linked to life events such as family formation, maternity leave, and caregiving responsibilities. Women accounted for 58% of the reported cases, though men (42%) also sought support. The public sector accounted for 36% of cases.

The center operates on a confidential basis and offers anonymous consultations for those who prefer discretion. It is open on Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

As workplace harassment remains a widespread concern, Trieste’s efforts reflect a broader movement to address labor rights and mental health challenges in professional environments. “This initiative ensures that workers have a place to turn,” Tonel said, “and that the city remains proactive in safeguarding their rights.”
