City officials in Trieste announced on Saturday that all fenced public gardens will be closed on Sunday, April 6, as meteorologists forecast strong gusts of bora winds to sweep across the area.
The decision was made as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety amid warnings of hazardous wind conditions. The bora, a northeasterly wind known for its sudden and powerful gusts, is a frequent visitor to the Adriatic city, particularly in the colder months and during seasonal transitions.
“The Municipality of Trieste informs that, due to the forecast of strong bora winds, fenced public gardens will remain closed on Sunday, April 6 and until wind conditions improve,” read a statement issued by the city.
Authorities did not specify when the gardens would reopen, noting that the closure will remain in effect until weather conditions stabilize.
Local residents are accustomed to the dramatic effects of the bora, which can reach speeds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour (over 60 miles per hour) and has been known to disrupt transportation and daily life across the region.
While open parks and other public spaces remain accessible, the city urged caution and advised the public to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity during periods of intense wind.
