On Sunday, April 6, 2025, Trieste’s Civic Museums will participate in #domenicalmuseo, a nationwide initiative launched by Italy’s Ministry of Culture, which provides free access to cultural institutions on the first Sunday of every month.

This year, the program will allow visitors to explore several of the city’s most prominent museums without charge. Among the participating venues are the Revoltella Museum, which is set to fully reopen in spring 2025, though the baronial residence is currently available for free visits; the Castle of San Giusto; the Carlo Schmidl Theater Museum; the Diego de Henriquez Museum of War for Peace; and the Natural History Museum.

In addition to April 6, Trieste’s cultural scene offers year-round free entry at several other institutions, including the Sea Museum, the Museum of Oriental Art, the Sartorio Museum, the J.J. Winckelmann Museum of Antiquity, the Risiera di San Sabba, the Documentation Center of the Foiba of Basovizza, and the Museum of the Risorgimento and Oberdan Memorial. Temporary exhibitions at Magazzino 26 are also free to visit.

Not all exhibitions, however, are included in the free-access initiative. Temporary exhibitions that are not part of the regular ticket price, as well as major exhibitions held at the Salone degli Incanti, are excluded from the program.

For more details about the museums, their collections, and opening hours, visitors can visit Trieste Cultura.
