More than half a century after its debut, La Giacca Dannata, a one-act opera by Giulio Viozzi, is returning to the stage in a new production at Teatro Miela. The performance, scheduled for April 7 and 8, marks the revival of a work that premiered in 1967 at Trieste’s Teatro Verdi under the baton of Alberto Zedda.

Viozzi, a prominent composer and educator, was known for blending local historical themes with an interest in the supernatural. La Giacca Dannata, based on a short story by Dino Buzzati, follows an office worker who finds a hidden fortune in the pocket of a new jacket. As he seeks out the tailor who made it, he is drawn into a mystery that challenges his moral compass.

This new chamber production replaces the original orchestration with piano accompaniment and features Triestine baritone Manuel Sedmak in the lead role. Directed by Davide Rossi, the staging reimagines the story within a radio studio, exploring themes of identity and deception.

The project, produced by the Friedrich Schiller Cultural Association and the Artifragili theater company in collaboration with Teatro Miela, is supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government and the Ananian Philanthropic Foundation.

Tickets are available through the Teatro Miela box office and online via Vivaticket.
