The regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has officially approved the academic calendar for the 2025–26 school year, laying out a schedule that balances instructional requirements with family needs and institutional flexibility.

Under the new calendar, preschools across the region will operate from September 11, 2025, through June 27, 2026, totaling 221 days of activity. Primary and secondary schools—both lower and upper levels—will open on the same date but conclude earlier, on June 9, 2026, for a total of 205 school days.

The announcement came on Thursday from the region’s Councillor for Labor, Education, Research, Universities and Family, following approval by the Regional Executive.

The school year will include closures for all national holidays—among them All Saints’ Day (November 1), the Immaculate Conception (December 8), Christmas (December 25 and 26), New Year’s Day (January 1), Epiphany (January 6), Easter Monday (April 6), Liberation Day (April 25), Labor Day (May 1), and Republic Day (June 2)—as well as for each town’s patron saint.

Additional breaks will include:

  • Christmas holidays: December 23, 2025 – January 5, 2026
  • Carnival and Ash Wednesday: February 16–18, 2026
  • Easter holidays: April 2–7, 2026

In a statement, the Councillor emphasized the calendar’s “balanced” approach, designed to support the well-being of families, students, and educational staff. While it respects the national mandate of a minimum of 200 instructional days, the plan also grants schools a degree of autonomy to adjust their schedules based on educational priorities or unforeseen circumstances.

The decision is part of a broader regional strategy to modernize and streamline the educational system, while ensuring consistency with national standards.
