A new free training program aimed at promoting urban gardening and sustainable green practices has been launched in Trieste as part of the “Orti 2025” initiative. Organized by the local association Urbi et Horti, the course offers a series of public lectures and practical workshops, with the goal of encouraging citizens to engage in small-scale agriculture, even from their own balconies.
The program, which began on April 9 with a session on establishing a small family vineyard, will continue through the spring. Led by winemaker Jadran Zerjal, the opening lecture focused on planting operations and varietal selection. Zerjal is scheduled to return on April 16 for a follow-up session on vineyard maintenance and cultivation techniques.
On May 7, the course will shift focus to composting, with an instructional talk by Tiziana Cimolino on how to prepare compost suitable for home gardens.
Held at Via Modiano 5 in Trieste, the course consists of four two-hour modules, combining theoretical lessons with interactive discussions and hands-on activities. Participants who attend at least four sessions will receive a certificate of participation.
The initiative is open to the public and specifically targets those interested in urban horticulture and the stewardship of communal green spaces. Instructors include professionals in agriculture, botany, and environmental care.
