On Saturday, April 12, the “Passeggiando si Impara 2025” program, organized by the Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Trieste, invites participants to discover the natural beauty of the Classic Karst region through a guided walk led by Luca Zini, a professor of applied geology at the University of Trieste.
The walk will take place in the Igouza Forest, located behind the village of Basovizza, offering a unique opportunity to explore the area’s karst formations. The region, known for its distinctive landscape, is home to striking sinkholes, rocky outcrops, and expansive caves. As part of the tour, participants will gain insight into the geological changes that have shaped the environment over thousands of years.
The event, which is free to attend, requires prior registration. Interested individuals can download a registration form from the program’s website and submit it in person on the day of the event. The completed forms will be collected at the meeting point.
The walk will begin at 2:45 p.m. at the large gravel parking area on Via Kosovel in Basovizza, where the Ressel Trail starts. The location is accessible by bus lines 51 and 39.
Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate hiking footwear and be prepared for a walk on uneven terrain. The event will take place regardless of weather conditions, with any potential cancellations to be evaluated on-site.
This guided walk is part of the ongoing “Passeggiando si Impara” initiative, aimed at promoting learning through outdoor experiences in the Trieste region.
