In response to a rise in sophisticated fraud schemes targeting older residents, the city of Trieste is holding a series of public information sessions aimed at helping citizens protect themselves from scams.

The second meeting in the series takes place today, Friday, April 11, at 5 p.m. at the Mattioni Municipal Library in the Borgo San Sergio neighborhood. Organized by the city’s Department of Education, the initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Carabinieri and the social cooperatives LA.SE and La Collina.

The event is free and open to the public, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Officials say the goal is to raise awareness, share practical strategies, and provide tools to help residents—particularly the elderly—identify and avoid fraudulent activity.

“In recent years, scams have become more pervasive and technologically advanced,” organizers noted in a statement. “Public awareness and institutional collaboration are the strongest lines of defense.”

The initiative follows the success of the first meeting, held on April 4 at the Marini Marinelli Library, which drew significant community interest and turnout.

The city has positioned its public libraries as ideal venues for such gatherings, describing them as “safe and familiar spaces” where residents can engage with trusted experts and officials.

While today’s meeting marks the second in the series, further events are expected in the coming weeks at additional library branches across the city.

For more information, residents may contact the Mattioni Library at +39 040 675 9350 or by email at bib.mattioni@comune.trieste.it.
